Did I ever tell you??

About the time there was A BIRD IN OUR BASEMENT?!!
A few months ago I snuck some time with the basement t.v. (usually known as “dad’s territory”) while home alone. If I remember correctly I wasn’t feeling very well and merely wanted to snuggle under some blankets and watch mindless television. There I am, minding my own business, vacillating on whether to nap or not nap when A BIRD FLIES ACROSS THE T.V. SCREEN AND LANDS ON MOM’S HEDGEHOG COLLECTION. If there were EVER a time to pee one’s pants, this SURELY would be it. I know I’ve said before that I “’bout peed my pants” or that I was “so excited I peed my pants”. All these former statements PALE in comparison to the bird moment. What the heck do you do when there is a bird in your basement? First of all, FROM WHENCE had it come? There are no legitimate windows in the basement and the only source of bird entry in the past has been the fireplace (in which cases bird exit was not as life-like if you catch my drift). I’m pretty sure I would have noticed if a bird got through the fireplace and flew through the open doorway downstairs. The fireplaces had no evidence of bird meddling. I tried to open the tiny little basement window only to find that the screen WILL NOT BUDGE. Unfortunately I do not speak birdtalk fluently so I could not express to my terrifying friend that the window would not be his exit. Do you know what it’s like for something to FLY AT YOUR FACE? Because I do. This is why I do not like animals such as this. Birds have been added to my list, which also includes butterflies, frogs and ladybugs. The ANIMALS you cannot predict and therefore should be avoided list. And you know, having seen “The Birds”, well, those scenes flashing in my mind were not so helpful. The bird flew into the bathroom and I forced myself out of the fetal-rocking-position to figure out what the HECK I was gonna do. I decided on trapping the bird in a plastic cup. Eventually chasing the bird with the plastic cup sufficed, I got it upstairs, opened the door and screen door and got the intruder OUT.
This story really sums up my life. Because things like this HAPPEN ALL THE TIME to me. As the joke with Cecilia and me goes, “Am I being punked?” explains every day for me. I’d like to think I’m the greatest source of humor for God.

*shudder*

looking up

Literally AND figuratively. Things have been a lot better today and were yesterday as well. This is good because Monday and Tuesday of this week weren’t my favorite days ever.

Check out my new ride

Okay it’s really my cousin’s. She is graciously letting me borrow it while my car is in the shop eating money like it’s goin’ out of style. In case you need a refresher, my cousin is the mother of this little boy. It’d been too long since I posted a picture of him. I miss him so much now that he’s in Florida. We shall be reunited soon though, from which you can be assured a plethora of photos!

Today feels like a magical day! It’s SO warm out but still overcast and foggy and spewing a little rain now and then. I love overcast days (I think it’s a symptom of much time lived in Germany!). Days like these mean naps with the windows open, which are one of my most favorite things in the world. I’m gonna go ahead and say this because I know you are all thinking it; “Puxatawney Phil, you got it WRONG, because spring is a-comin’ early!”‘

Day 2

Another weird day. No picture sorry.
Lent starts tomorrow, woo! I actually am really excited.
I went to see “Gran Torino” again tonight with mom and dad. I think they liked it as much as I did. It was great to laugh at the parts that reek of my dad while he was there, it was uncanny at times.

bleh

This day has been weird. Not the part with you Alex. Or you either Mom. They are the only two people I have seen today who read this. Is “weirdness” an adverse reaction to a TB skin test? If so I may have TB. watch out.

Every blessing You pour out, I’ll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, still I will pray
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name

Where the Trees Stand Still

There is a Bebo Norman song with the above title, I love it and was reminded of it when I took this picture.

cranky pants are definitely skinny jeans

Because they are HARD to get off, I’m telling ya. Today has been pretty crazy, I’ve been running around but what I really need is a nap. I am capital C to the -ranky. I woke up early, went to work, came home from work and went to work out. A lotta “work”s in that sentence…the mystery unravels! It’s so hard to go work out when all that is in you is BEGGING and PLEADING to get back into bed. But I want to make working out a habit and once I tell myself, “I am working out today,” the working out MUST happen. Plus I got to do weights and I love doing weights. I came home, showered and headed to the Lansing school district offices to figure out what the next step is to attain my emergency substitute status. The next step is LOTS MORE PAPERWORK and MONEY. See this hoop? You may think it is the last one you will jump through BUT NO! there are 50 more and the last few are REALLY fun because they are FLAMING! I’m hesitant to invest $150 in something when I’m not 100% sure I’ll make that money back. There are 60 people on the substitute list for Lansing, that’s a LOT for this lil ole town. The thing is that the state of Kansas got my fingerprints and my college transcript and thought I was adequate for the job, so why must I also get a background check, child abuse history check, etc.? I like children and I get that we want to make sure no one is hired who will hurt children but I am venting and as I’ve said before LOGIC has no place here. I am very discouraged. I went to Sonic for Happy Hour to console myself and waited 15 minutes to get a drink. seriously?
these cranky pants may be glued on.
However, I took a leap a few minutes ago and though I’m not revealing it right now, I will soon and I hope you’ll like it. I’m excited and overwhelmed and all that jazz.

PICTURES!
Today was a gorgeous day and really my favorite parts of the day are dawn and dusk. I am seeing a lot more dawns than I usually do these days and I always kick myself that I do not have my camera with me (it’s a Sigma 28-79 mm lens Kate!), so dusk will have to do today.

This is my curly/wavy hair shadow.

Disappointing

Seriously people? Does anyone read this? Because no one said anything about the lovely knitting project I knit (ted?) last weekend. I need affirmation, you should know this.
And I fell behind on the photo challenge, so I’m posting three photos today to make up for it.

Day 2

Of the photographing challenge.

Alex and Kaitlyn’s new tv. IT. IS. AWESOME. I will bring you up to speed in case you aren’t friends with me on facebook or twitter. I went over to A+K’s last Wednesday to watch LOST so Alex and I could discuss the episode in person. I walked in to their apartment, started chatting with Kaitlyn, completely oblivious to the GINORMOUS MONSTROSITY that is their new t.v. (I mean monstrosity in the best way possible, I could use more of this kind of monstrosity in my life!)(If you are thinking “that’s what she said” right now, I give you kudos). Five minutes later I caught on. We watched LOST in HD, HD PEOPLE!! It was so amazing, I never knew things could be like this. And, as I said on facebook, I cannot wait until Sawyer takes his shirt off, it is inevitable after all and if you didn’t already know about my weaknesses when it comes to LOST, well shame on you.
That was a long explanation for the photo of the day, but oh well.

Alex and I went to see “Gran Torino” today. WOW. I was not expecting it to be what it was. It was REALLY good. I love Clint Eastwood!
As we walked back to the car, Alex said, “I feel like I’m walking next to a model.” ARE YOU SERIOUS? That’s definitely one of the top 5 compliments of my life, if not #1. It’s definitely the #1 compliment of today! I guess that new hot pink pashmina is working wonders (it can be seen in the photo if you look hard). WOO!
Dear Alex,
Every time I am with you I feel like I’m with a male model (even better looking than Derek Zoolander). Thank you for making me feel beautiful today, I will cherish your words for a long time to come.
Love,
your model sister

Big Valentine’s Plans

Yep, I am blogging while home alone on Valentine’s Day. ehh.
I started a new knitting project for mom today and it’s SOOO fun. And out of the January Martha Stewart magazine, are you impressed? I don’t claim to know what God thinks or feels, but I will tell you, this whole creating thing, it’s SO neat. To make something out of nothing (or yarn) for someone you love, and someone who will love what you’ve made is a wonderful feeling! I can’t imagine making something for ALL people to love. I don’t acknowledge often enough how thankful I am to God for His work, for making something out of nothing for MY enjoyment, for ME to love. I’m just making a lil ole neck scarf and He made a world for us to live in, live from and enjoy.
Valentine’s is about love, eh? I think I’m getting it.
