I am incredibly blessed. I had a wonderful birthday. What was wonderful was all my friends and family calling me and that my mom got to be here with me! Thank you to all the people who made my day(s) special, whether through a phone call, facebook post, xanga message or email, I LOVE YOU!
I am going to work harder at making other peoples’ birthday special, that will be my mission this year!!
I was talking to my mom just now and she fell asleep while I was talking to her…guess I need to stop talking so much, haha.
I broke out the pink shoes for the first time since spring…love those shoes.
that is all, i’m headed toward a chick-fil-a-induced coma.

The Birthday Rules (so far);
1. The Birthday girl or boy shall wear their favorite undies on their birthday
2. Calories don’t count on your birthday
3. The Birthday girl or boy should do at least one favorite thing on the birthday (for example, if one preferred, watch dvds of past seasons of Gilmore Girls)
4. The Birthday girl or boy should see at LEAST one person they love on their birthday
5. Things that seem taboo in adult-food-world don’t apply on birthdays, such as having a DP with breakfast (who would do that? sorry if I made you lust, Julia, it was not my intent!)
6. In the Kansas-Riester household, the birthday girl or boy always got breakfast in bed, and was awakened to their family singing “happy birthday”. Breakfast was usually comprised of powdered donettes and a banana (to form a smiley face) and OJ. Now this rule hasn’t really been enforced on my birthday in the last 4 years because I have been at JBU, but if I were near family, you’d better believe that action would be happenin’ and I fully intend on doing this for my kids as well.

That is all I can think of now…I will add rules as I see fit.

I couldn’t choose between posting on living with three boys or about the intoxicating season of fall. I think I’ll follow my indecisiveness and talk about both.
A few things I’ve learned from living with only males:
A. They have no concept of what the word “quiet” means.
B. “doing the dishes” consists of placing the dish in or next to the sink (does not apply to pots and pans, apparently males are incapable of washing these…technical glitch of some sort, and this is not a recent discovery, I do have a father and dad (no offense guys)
C. Boys only hear about 1/4 of the things you say, therefore I repeat things 4 times, that USUALLY does it
D. Most phone conversations in this house go a little something like this (if boy is calling someone else); “hello…….um…..is…..um….matthew there? Oh….can he…..um….play? okay” The person on the other line is most likely a mom or nanny (i have been on the receiving end of these calls too!), and may or may not hear me in the background saying “say ‘hello, this is _____, can _____ play?” seriously…social skills are lacking here, guess that’s what i’m here for.

Onto the OTHER subject. What is it about the outdoors that makes sleep so delirously wonderful? I opened the back door, because it was SO beautiful today (75 degrees with a breeze) and took a nap before the boys got home and it was the best nap I’ve had in about 3 months. I spend a great deal of the day just gazing outdoors, I LOVE FALL!

That is all for now, should be in bed.

So I’m about to leave for a church service that I am attending alone. I’m kinda nervous…what if they don’t like me?

A few thoughts from my Bridget Jones’ (just finished The Edge of Reason) style night;
1. Although I am sure I am not the person to bring this up AND I’m like 2 seasons late, but HOW IN THE WORLD were so many good-looking people on that plane that crashed on LOST (and why was I not invited? Not that I’m assuming that I’m good-looking, I just figured the odds would be in my favor if I were stranded on an island with like 40 good-looking men). I am now addicted to LOST, and Netflix is feeding this addiction, wish the mail was quicker. To compensate for slowness of mail, am integrating episodes from first season of Gilmore Girls (between watching discs of LOST) which I OWN and therefore can speed through (also have seasons 2-4, which helps)
2. As fascinating as this may sound, listening to an 8-year-old count all of his freckles is incredibly boring, though I must admit I was amused when he stuck his head under his shirt to count those. Not only did he count his 50+ freckles aloud to me (in the midst of my paused LOST episode), he counted stickers on various sticker-sheets I have lying around due to my frenzied scrapbooking (yay-oh-yay).
3. Gilmore Girls is still funny, even 5 years after the season I am watching (1) premiered.
4. My “college-years” scrapbook is coming along nicely. I am proud.
5. My birthday is in 4 days, woo
6. My mom comes to visit in 3 days, double woo!

The last two days have been a little strange, because my boss has been home sick. A) it’s strange that there is another person here during the day when the boys are at school b) I’m not really sure what my job is when the boys get home. Thankfully today I had the car so I got out for a little bit, just to keep from going crazy. It’s so beautiful out today, I should go on a bike ride! Two more days until the first day of fall. It will be wonderful to see an east coast fall, I am very much looking forward to it.
Well I guess I will go scrapbook.

I’m struggling with making a difference here. I know, I haven’t even been here for a month yet. Things are good, I love living here and I know this is where God wants me to be. I’m just having trouble relating to this family. I am going to choose to believe that I am sowing seeds here, and my words will not return to me void. There are so many variables here, so much hurt and I feel like screaming, “I know what the solution is, I know how to heal the hurt!!” They know about Jesus, they just haven’t gotten to that part where you integrate Him into your life (which is something we all struggle with I know).
Oh and I need some girl friends here, I want to go see a movie Friday night.

Cecilia is here visiting, in case you hadn’t realized. Well she isn’t really visiting me, but rather searching for a job nearby in order to escape from Casa de Crazy (as her parents’ house is so fondly called on her facebook). I escaped Riesters’ Nut House almost 3 weeks ago, in order to shirk the encroaching title of “townie”, attributed to those who stay in Lansing (home sweet home) and/or their parents’ house a little TOO long. Anyhoo, she is here and there has been a lot of fun had. Yesterday she was perusing some ads online in order to find an apartment/roommate. Also on this classifieds site was a section entitled “I Saw You”, where strangers who “saw” other strangers on say, the metro, take out ads because the two had a “moment” or because one was the “most beautiful woman I have ever seen”, etc. It sounds sweet, but really, it is quite creeptastic. Most of the people who took out ads came across as stalkerish, so of course, Cecilia and I began reading these ads in amusing accents and, of course, laughing ensued. Seriously people, you would not believe what some of these people wrote. I encourage you to check it out. The best thing we read was a man searching for a woman whom he had talked to somewhere sometime. After their encounter he reported that she left him “in a whirlpool of desire” (i know!). Oh how I love the big city.

Hoping you are not left in a whirlpool of desire today,
LOVE!
